“A true missionary leaves self behind and goes forth with faith, courage, and love to share the Good News.”
The Sisters of Ethiopia expressed to the then Superior General, Sr. Evelyn the desire to have an implantation in another African country preferably in Tanzania. On her visitation to Ethiopia in the first half of the year 2008, she travelled to Songea with late Sr. Anne, the then Regional Superior in Ethiopia, to explore the possibilities of implanting a mission in Tanzania.
The CM Fathers helped the Sisters to have a house in Songea, Tanzania, in their own Parish and the Sisters were employed in their Primary and Sec. School. This is how FSMA Sisters had its humble beginning in Tanzania on 21st November, 2008 in the Archdiocese of Songea situated in the southernmost tip of the country.
May Jesus bless our pioneer Sisters Rosita and a junior sister from Ethiopia. They were followed by Srs Joanna, Ruth, Jyothsna Lakra, Jasmine and Veena. Trusting in the Providence of God our first missionaries reached out to the people of the land facing various challenges. They offered their generous services in the field of education (both in the Primary & Secondary levels), Pastoral work, visiting the families, giving medicines to the poor etc
Gradually more missionaries came in, to strengthen the group. Formation for young Tanzanian girls was initiated in 2016.Through the grace of Jesus and efforts of our Indian Sisters; we have 13 Tanzanian sisters, and 1 Kenyan sister and many young women in formation, answering the call to follow Christ in the footsteps of St. Francis.
The road is challenging, the joy of witnessing Christ’s love makes our mission fruitful, bringing faith, hope, and life to many. We are indebted to Jesus for blessing the Mission over the past 17 years, to serve in five dioceses with six communities. Msamala, Songea in (Nov. 2008), Mshangano, Songea in (Jan. 2016) Michungwani, Dar es Salaam in (July, 2017) (working at St Claret School, Nundu, Njombe in (Nov. 2020) Moshi in (Nov. 2023) and Dodoma in (June, 2025)
On the whole the people of the land are welcoming, co-operative and eager to change themselves. We have plenty of scope to bring God's good news to the people here specially to the children and the youth. Trusting in the Lord we move forward offering the best we can. Truly the 'Harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few.'
