FSMA - Franciscans of St. Mary of the Angels - is a Religious Institute of Sisters whose origins date back to 1871 in Angers, France.

Back to Brazil Region
Founded with the purpose of looking after orphans in the aftermath of the Franco-Prussian war, it quickly spread to other parts of Europe, and then to India in 1892.
The Charism of the Sisters as envisioned by our French Founders : Caroline Rurange (Mother Chrysostom of the Cross) and Ferdinand Potton (Fr. John Chrysostom ofm cap.) is : To follow Christ as Adorers and Missionaries in the footsteps of Mary our Mother and St. Francis of Assisi.
The Sisters engage themselves as community in varied ministries : education, health-care, and socio-pastoral needs.
With sixty-plus flourishing communities in India, the Mother House of FSMA or the Generalate was shifted from France to Madhya Pradesh in India in 2023. This Generalate House serves as a hub for connecting the General Council with the entire Institute internationally, and catering to the needs of each country - India, France, England, Ethiopia, Brazill and Tanzania.
We welcome young girls who desire to follow Christ and His kingdom values of justice, truth, and fellowship.
